bonding...

Lakota and BDP are also supportive of rescue, but like the break in between fosters too!

Gives them a chance to chillax!

... until the next one that needs a home ...

Boomer at Home

I received 2 updates on Boomer Monday. One from the rescue coordinator who is working with the family that adopted Boomer. Then the woman who adopted him emailed me.

I'm just going to share the emails as is (with her permission) because they're great! I am so happy.

Hi Barbara,
The first day went really well! He slept under my bed the entire night,(had a little difficulty getting out!!),but did not whine or whimper at all! However,he did not eat anything,...but i suppose that is to be expected! We took him on a walk, which he loved, and then proceeded to drink a huge bowl of water. The second day he seemed fairly miserable for the first part of the day,but perked up in the afternoon, and once again enjoyed a long walk. This morning(after spending the night downstairs with the other dogs) he was beside himself to see us all at around 8am.....he was actually prancing around, and being really bouncy! We left him outside with the other dogs for about 3 hrs.and it did not seem to be a problem! Going on our 3rd day with him, i must admit that it feels like he is already part of the family!
Will keep you updated,
P

Carri Ann,
Firstly,I want to thank you so much for all your efforts concerning Boomer! We know how wonderful you are and what a great influence you had on him,.....he is such a sweet dog!!!!! He already seems very attached to us,and is so happy on our reentry into a room!(we love his big puppy bounce!) He is slowly becoming used to his surroundings, although at first all the sights and sounds of the backyard were quite overwhelming! Yesterday morning he seemed quite depressed, but perked up later on,and has enjoyed 3 long walks already. He is really good on the leash, and L (the 12 year old boy) walks him with no problem.(L absolutely adores him!!!) So,all in all ,I think that he is doing exceptionally well in his new home, and that he is just going to be the best deer hunter out there! (if only in his doggy dreams!!)
Will keep in touch,
Thanks again,
P

why i love rescue...

because of those times when everything turns out right...

Boomer's new yard is amazing, lovely trees and grass and shade and paths and they even get DEER (aka vishus deer) in their yard! I'm sure Boomer will protect his family from the vishus deer so all you kitty bloggers out there have nothing to fear!

Here he is exploring his paradise.

This is one of his two new brothers, making sure Boomer knows who's boss!

There's nothing more lovely than a boy and his dog.
This special, compassionate young man chose Boomer over a 7 m.o. puppy in rescue.
They are going to be inseparable.

Boomer getting some loving and reassurance from his new dad.
I love this picture.

The happy family. They are incredible, a perfect match for him!

Brought to you with much joy because Ridgeback Rescue exists and cares.

(i'm working on a video of pics chronicling Boomer's journey with me but it's proving harder than i thought... maybe someday i will finish and post it!)

Dogs are just property...

Dear Four Paws,

your insurance dept said that dogs are just property...

well it seems to me that often times they are better than people

Girl Abandons baby, Dog rescues baby

put that in your corporate pipe and smoke it

a joyless post

Sorry but although I'm celebrating Boomer's new life coming this Saturday I was alerted to an issue that has me foaming.

We need to boycott FourPaws and pass the word and complain...

Read Chai's story -

What makes me even MORE LIVID is that the owner of Chai has posted that FourPaws has finally acknowledged that they had a problem with the toy and were removing it. They also said they would help with compensation for Chai's bills. Cool I thought...

THEN, scanning comments that have come in another pet owner HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN in 2005!!!! And FourPaws claimed told that owner they were correcting the issue!

They LIED.

How many owners and innocent dogs were injured as a result?

finally...

after two months of having this precious guy in my life...

he finally gets to have his forever home!!!

yup, the family from tuesday's visit is adopting him!

saturday morning i will drive him to his new family, about an hour away. he will have a 12 year old boy that will dote on him and love him and picked him over another dog we have in rescue that is a 7 month old puppy! he wanted Boomer over a puppy!!!

i'm so happy for Boomer... this is worth the tears i will shed in saying goodbye...
and will be why i shed tears of joy - knowing he is where he belongs...

safely home. forever.

lest you think only rabbits are disapproving...

i tried to explain to lakota that it was the rabbits' hutch and not a dog house...

what disrespect... if i had stuck my tongue out at my mom like that i wouldn't have gotten away with it! (of course we won't discuss the fact that the bunnies don't get to use it right now...)

Boomers Walkies

Well a while back I stopped taking Boomer to dog park. It was just too stressful for him and he did not enjoy it at all. So the new routine became taking Lakota and O'Reilly to dog park then coming home and taking Boomer for walkies. He's still working up to a real walk but he loves the time we spend, just me and him, even if 15 minutes is about all he can do!

Check out how when I call him back he gets this Mickey Mouse ear thing going on that is just sooooooo adorable.

There is a family coming tomorrow (Tuesday) that may adopt him. So I wanted to get video before I may have to say goodbye.

Everyday has been a new and exciting day for him. I have watched him change and grow so much. I will be happy to see him go to his forever home where he becomes the center of their world and not just one in a pack. He deserves to be loved and spoiled.

I will also miss him very much.

It is the bittersweetness that is rescue...

It's a beautiful day!

Beautiful Day by U2
The heart is a bloom, shoots up through stony ground
But there's no room, no space to rent in this town
You're out of luck and the reason that you had to care,
The traffic is stuck and you're not moving anywhere.
You thought you’d found a friend to take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand in return for grace

It's a beautiful day, the sky falls
And you feel like it's a beautiful day
It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away

You’re on the road but you’ve got no destination
You’re in the mud, in the maze of her imagination
You love this town even if it doesn’t ring true
You’ve been all over and it’s been all over you

It's a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
It's a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away

Touch me, take me to that other place
Teach me, I know I’m not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
See the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colours came out
It was a beautiful day
A beautiful day
Don’t let it get away

Touch me, take me to that other place
Reach me, I know Iím not a hopeless case

What you don’t have you don’t need it now
What you don’t know you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
You don’t need it now, you don’t need it now
Beautiful day

Hey Friends!

Well Mom was sick for two whole weeks! Then BDP got sick with a bad cough and had a fever Sunday. Wednesday Lakota starting hacking! Tomorrow some people are coming by to meet Boomer. He has a couple different families that want to adopt him. And Mom is trying to work on her business and pulling together a plan for an animal sanctuary. It's crazy around here.

Poor BDP is bummed because since he and Lakota are sick Mom is not taking them to the doggie park because she thinks they got sick there and she doesn't want other dogs to get sick from them. So he's BORED. She plays with him but it's not enough. He just misses his friends.

I'll be catching up on all your great blogs tonight. I have missed blogging a lot. It's just harder to keep up with it all right now!

One cool thing is Mom is letting me out and last week she even locked the dogs out and went to bed with me free. I kept waking her up jumping on the bed. It was fun. But Boomer didn't like it and after a long long time he started whining and howling and would not stop so Mom closed my enclosure and opened the bedroom door so he could come sleep by her on the floor. Silly guy.

Since it's been a while here's a video of me grooming last night after Mom let me play in the bedroom for a while. It's important to clean up after playing!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

i love my Hidey Hole

So Mom did it again - came in the bedroom to put her laundry away and shut the door and moved my walls so I could, as she said, come out and play.

But I am not used to all that space...

and my hidey hole is so safe!

But when Mom was done she gave me new hay and trees and closed my walls so I could come out of my hidey hole again.

Mom told me not to worry because she's going to do it a lot until I am not so afraid of the world. I wish I could talk cuz I'd tell her I'm not afraid of the world, just BDP. But I think she kind of understands that!

(p.s. Mom said she's sorry she hasn't visited all the blogs much but she's been very sick and still isn't feeling totally good. But she is trying to visit a few a day to keep up with everybody's antics!)
